GO! will begin on January 8th at 5:30pm in room 101.
Goal – Our time will focus on action and service. We will prepare families and individuals for acts of service. Our service is an act of worship and a gift to those in our community.
Why we do what we do -
1)Outward focus.
2)engages us with the community and the goal should be 50%from community and 50% from the church.
3)Service for needy within our congregation.
4) action oriented, not meetings!
Schedule – 5:30PM – Church will meet in rm 101 for a time of worship. 5:45PM – Instructions for the night. This will be a time to present the game plan and reasons why we are doing this style of service. Each week members can choose if they want to go visit, stay and work or be a part of a specific project. 6:00-7:00PM – There will be a variety of projects going on. Some will be on campus, though most will be off campus.
Family, Service and Worship
Paul wrote to the Colossians telling them to let God’s word dwell in their heart, so that whatever they did in word or deed, they should do it all for God’s glory.
James told his readers not to be mere hearers of God’s Word and become hypocrites, but be doers. He also told them that a true lifestyle of faith (real religion) is one that includes helping the poor and the orphans.
The church we see in the Bible is active and alive in studying God’s Word, worshiping together and regularly helping those in need.
Go! is designed to give us a corporate time to serve as an act of worship. Imagine a worship service where we get up out of our pews and actively reach out to the world around us. Not just when a big storm destroys a city, but regular, intentional times of service. That’s a great way to put “service” back into worship service.
FAMILIES or teams are how we will go out and serve. No one goes alone. Husband and wife reaching out to a new couple. Father and son hammering nails. Mother and daughter baking cookies for a new family that has been visiting. Teams going out on prayer walks. Whether with your own family or with someone else from our church family, no one goes alone.
FOCUSED assignments or work projects will drive us toward those areas that really need our attention. Coordination and reporting will help us see what is most effective and beneficial. From our elders and staff to families and teams, there is a project that needs you. Like a compass guiding us, our GO! projects will lead us straight to people who need our love.
FUN yet out of our comfort zone! That is probably how most will feel about this new style of worship. Come find a service that you find exciting and worthwhile. Purposeful, powerful and practical, these are the attributes of our projects.
As we start this new style of worship, we need you to join us with your ideas of projects. The leadership at Cordova believes each member should have their own ministry. GO! projects might be just the place to start to bring your vision of service to life.
Variety is the spice of life
One week take your family to visit another family that has been visiting our congregation. The next week, stay at the church to prepare cards for our local police and firefighters. Then the third week you could choose to lead a project in your neighborhood.
GO! is designed to give us flexibility and variety. From focused times of prayer, to outings that will connect us with our community, there is a project just for you each week. From first contacts to follow up visits, we want to reach out to all types of people.
GO! gives you the variety to choose your own project. But first you must choose to GO!
