February 19, 2012 – Too Blessed to Be Stressed – Eph. 1:1-14

This sermon drew from Ephesians 1:1-14 in which Paul expresses praise to God because he has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ. As Christians, we are blessed. Many times we are not aware of the spiritual blessings we possess. Most of the time, the blessings we think of those are related to the material blessings of this world such as our finances, possessions, health and family. However, one is blessed even though their temporal conditions may not be favorable.

Recognizing and living with the constant awareness of our spiritual blessings will give us a new attitude for living. We can live with a heart of thanksgiving, praise and purpose. This quality of life enables us to be overcome and live above the stresses of daily life.

1. What does it mean to be blessed?

2. Can you think of a time when you felt special because you were chosen for something?

3. What are some of the special feelings experience by a child who has been adopted?

4. What do you think Paul meant when he said, “he predestined us to be adopted as his sons to the praise of his glorious grace…”(Eph. 1:5-6).

5. What is “redemption” and how is it a blessing? (See Eph. 1:7).

6. How is forgiveness a great blessing?

7. Can you think of a time when you were give special information that was not given to others? How did that make you feel?

8. What do you think Paul meant when he said that God’s purpose was, “to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ” (Eph. 1:10)?

9. How are we to be, “for the praise of his glory” (Eph. 1:12)?

10. How should having spiritual blessings impact our ability to deal with the stresses of everyday life?

11. What other thoughts and feelings do you have about the truths mentioned in Eph. 1:1-14?

Albanian Mission 2012

The Albanian mission team is starting to organize for 2012. If you have any interest in learning about an opportunity to present the love story of God’s pursuing and redeeming mankind, then please contact Pete and Pam Bogdanovic for more information at p.bogdanovic@comcast.net. The format is using written materials to teach students one-on-one. Most students have little knowledge of God. The trip will take place in July for 2 weeks.

As a church, we need to constantly be reminded of our mission, calling and purpose. As we live from day to day it is easy to forget that we, both individually and collectively have a God-given purpose. That purpose is summarized in our mission statement: To love God, love others and help others love God. The question is, “How do we carry out this mission?” Sunday’s message addressed that question and suggested how we practically fulfill our mission.

1. We express our love to God as we worship him. Which of the three areas of your worship life are most fulfilling?

a) The giving of your total self for God’s glory

b) Your times of personal worship

c) Your worship with other believers assembled together

2. We express our love to God as we obey him. What are some of the ways that obeying God is an act of worship?

3. We show our love to others by serving them. What are some ways that you are effective in ministering to others?

4. We show our love for others through fellowship. What are some ways that you have experienced true Christian fellowship?

5. We help others love God by sharing our faith with them. How would you describe your degree of involvement in sharing the gospel with others?

6. We help others love God by working with other Christians to grow in Christ. Describe how you are working with others to help them to mature spiritually.

7. Not only has God given us a mission to fulfill collectively, he has given us a personal purpose and calling. How would you describe the purpose to which God has called you?
